Moonlight Merengue

¡Saludos!

We have arrived in the capital of Santo Domingo. The excitement started with a grand applause as the plane safely touched down. After settling into the hotel, we walked down the street to eat a fabulous meal of pechugas de pollo, arroz con gandules, tostones, and more! To top the night off, we walked over to the zona colonial to listen to live merengue beneath the moonlit ruins of the old city. The tradition is called Bonyé, where older generations successfully preserve the traditional music of yesterday with live bands. Younger generations try to keep up in a vibrant dance that lasts for hours.

Tomorrow we wake up bright and early to head off to the South. The province of Barahona is where we will spend the majority of our time. We have a jam-packed schedule filled with meeting our work partners, and of course filling our bellies along the way.

Stay tuned!
