July 2: JFK Airport Hotel

If you have reserved and paid for a hotel room, one of your leaders will meet you at the hotel and stay overnight with the group. We will send you an email two weeks prior to departure with details about the hotel reservation and instructions on how to meet your leader.

July 3: Departure Day, New York to Santo Domingo

Group Meeting:

At 5:30 AM, meet your trip leader and fellow students at the Delta Airlines check-in counter (outside of security) at JFK International Airport (JFK). This is the official start of your Putney program!

Group Flight:

The group will fly on Delta Airlines flight #493 departing New York (JFK) at 8:35 AM, arriving in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ), at 12:32 PM local time (4 hours en route).

July 3: Santo Domingo

Spend one night in the country’s vibrant capital city and learn about Dominican history, language, and culture. Get to know one another through a group orientation and prepare for your stay in the host village.

July 4–9: La Guazara

Travel by private bus to our small host village, located in the mountains along the southern coast. Work together with the local community to complete a series of construction, education, and agricultural projects.

July 10: Bahia de las Aguilas

Camp overnight on an undeveloped and pristine beach, Bahia de Las Aguilas. Cook dinner together, play guitar around a beach bonfire, and spend time with Dominican friends.

July 11–13: La Guazara

Continue work on community service projects in our host village, La Guazara.

July 14 & 15: Jarabacoa, Central Mountains

For two nights, stay at a mountain ecolodge tucked into the Cordillera Central Mountains. Whitewater raft down the Rio Yaque del Norte, hike to a gorgeous waterfall, or ride horseback through the countryside.

July 16: Santo Domingo

Return to Santo Domingo to conclude the program, and enjoy a final dinner with your group. Reflect on your experience in the Dominican Republic and say your final farewells.

July 17: Return Day, Santo Domingo to New York

Group Flight:

The group will fly on Delta Airlines flight #500 from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ), returning to the International Arrivals Area of JFK International Airport (JFK) at 10:47 AM (3 hours, 45 minutes en route).
